I read a poem today that
challenged me to go beyond
the boundaries and constraints
of my “little” world

I stepped into the words
and expressions of another

It was complex, deep,
heavy-on-the-brain,
and stretched
my intellectual capacities

At the same time
it was light on my soul
nourishment for my spirit
and simple in my heart

It made me cry…
a cry of joy
a cry of revelation
a cry of beauty unexplained

If this is the provocation
and fulfillment
one gets out of being
a lover and understander
of poetry

Consider me akin
